[Satellite TODAY 05-24-13] Thuraya Telecommunications has unveiled a new Maritime Broadband (MBB) service enabling ship owners and managers to use maritime broadband communications. The MBB price plans range from unlimited high-volume usage plans to zero monthly low-volume plans that are suitable for backup purposes.

“Our analysis of the maritime communications market identified a clear need to simplify choice for end users by providing pricing plans that reflect the best possible value.” Thuraya’s Director of Marketing T. Sanford Jewett said in a statement.

Thuraya MBB provides standard IP throughput at speeds of up to 444 kbps. The Thuraya network features L-band satellites, which are currently available to maritime users.
